My Story

Hi, I'm Margareta Osborn, fifth generation cattlewoman, author, and a wife, mother and daughter. I live in the beautiful rolling hills of Gippsland, overlooking Lake Glenmaggie, in Victoria, Australia. With my wonderful (and very funny) husband & our family, along with my father and uncle, we run a beef grazing operation across a number of properties, both dryland and irrigated. Most days you will find me out in the paddock or cattleyards covered in dirt, muck or mud, doing all things farming. Other times, mainly in the very early mornings, you'll find me on our wide homestead verandah, wrapped in a woolen blanket, sipping a cup of Earl Grey tea or sitting in my office overlooking Lake Glenmaggie, writing, dreaming up my novels.

I was born here in this beautiful place I call home, our three children too. Our family settled the original family property, Homeview, in 1862 and it remains the main farm we fatten cattle on today. Connection to the land is long, strong and deep. I have traveled and worked on properties and stations from the north to the south, from the east to the west, but I always come home. It's like my feet are roots embedded in the soil tilled by my ancestors. And like my Great Grandmother, Martha, who was a prolific journaler, I love to write what I live. To tell creative, authentic stories drawn from my imagination -  now all that truly makes my heart sing.

With seven novels  to my name, I'm fortunate to be able to share with you six published by Penguin Random House, and another by US publishers, Tule.

Bella's Run, my debut novel, was a #1 Australian bestseller, and the other books, Hope's Road, A Bush Christmas, Mountain Ash, Rose River and Lake Hill, have all been in the Australian top #5 on release, so obviously, all you wonderful people love reading about rural Australia too.

So, if you ever see me out and about checking cattle, working cattle, feeding cattle, watering cattle, carting cattle - yep, I'm a cattlewoman through and through - know, whilst most of my brain is on the job, there's a tiny bit off dreaming up the next story to share with you about life in rural Australia.

I can honestly say life has, and continues to be, a wild ride. I'd love it if you stick around here with us and see where it all goes next - the links to the signup is at the bottom of the page.
